Transition Sessions

Pre-School to Foundation Transition

New environments can prove to be overwhelming and schools are no different.  To support our prospective students, Karoo runs a Transition Program which has proved enormously successful.  We provide a series of four sessions during Semester 2, available for enrolled children, with an emphasis on introducing the school environment to them. Experience has shown that our Foundation students settle very quickly into school life when these sessions have been attended. We notice they are familiar with the Foundation classrooms and staff, and have generally already formed new friendships.

Storytime @ Karoo

Held in Semester 1 in the Karoo Primary School Library. Sessions run for 30mins and are open to all pre-school children. Dates for 2026:

Karoo Foundation Discovery Night
Wednesday 20th May, 2026 from 5:00-6:00pm at Karoo Primary School 

Celebrating Education Week – spotlight on ‘Showcase our School’.
Experience a ‘taste of school’ in our Foundation area, where children can enjoy a range of engaging activities. Come along and meet our leaders, Foundation and Specialist staff.
Open to all families.

Fitting Into Foundation Transition sessions
For students enrolled in Foundation in 2027 at Karoo.

Children ‘discover and learn’ in the Foundation environment and are introduced to school life during these transition sessions. 

Session 1:   Wednesday 28th October 2026 (9:30-10:30am)    
Session 2:   Wednesday 11th November 2026 (9:30-10:30am)
Session 3:   Tuesday 24th November 2026 (9:30-11:00am)
Session 4:   Tuesday 8th December 2026 – State wide Orientation Day (9:30-11:15am)

Foundation Parent Information Night
Tuesday 1st December  from 6:00-7:00pm
For parents of students enrolled in Foundation 2027 at Karoo.

Learn about starting school, collect school book packs, meet your child’s 2027 teacher and other parents from your child’s 2027 class.

Transition for Pre-school parents

We understand that this can be a challenging time for parents, especially those embracing school life for the first time. During transition sessions, our Karoo Parent Association hosts a parent morning tea in the staffroom providing the opportunity to meet and connect with other parents (morning tea provided). The KPA members are also available to answer any questions parents may have, as they too have experienced how it feels to make that transition from pre-school parent to school parent.

Karoo also offers Parent Information evenings to assist parents in transitioning to the school environment, one focusing on the curriculum and one on what to expect when your child starts school.
